iPad, Garageband, and a new song

by Ben on May 7, 2010

So I put together a new song the other day using the iElectribe and minisynth pro apps on my new iPad. Here’s the mp3 and a little video showing the apps from the iPad and how they work.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Lyrics:
the old has past but where’s the new?
we’re stuck behind how will we go through
with all the things that you’ve called us to?

I want to release, just fall into your peace
But I just don’t want a piece I want it all

Chorus:
I didn’t know that I would have to die
In order to live, in order to fly

Fill your glass up in the dark
But you can’t see where is the mark?
you’ll never know unless you know the sound

seeing needs much more than eyes
hearing needs much more than ears
want to open up my heart to know you more

(repeat chorus)

I can hear Him
call their names
the chosen ones
who will bear His name

Wondering how you connected the iPad to GarageBand — how were you able to export the tracks you created on the iPad ? Many thanks and best wishes.

I simply hooked up the mic jack on the iPad to the audio in jack on the computer using something like this. Then I recorded the iPad music in live to a track in Garageband as a “real instrument” using the audio in jack as the selected audio source. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions.
